For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 1 Timothy 6:10 (NASB)

In spite of the Senate failing to act yesterday, it seems that their own greed has finally dealt Planned Parenthood what could turn out to be a fatal blow.  People are beginning to see them for the monsters they truly are.  As more videos are released, things can only get worse for them.  Why?  Not content with the billions they have received in taxpayer funding, the millions they’ve taken from desperate women seeking their services, the other millions they’ve received in donations from places like the United Way, other corporations, and even the sale of Girl Scout cookies, their greedy executives got caught on tape plotting the illegal sale and trafficking of human body parts.  It’s kind of like the old-timey mobsters who got brought down by the IRS.  After all the horror of what they’d done, who would have ever guessed?

Of course Planned Parenthood isn’t the only organization where greed is paramount.  CEO’s can make seven or even eight figure salaries when their employees barely make minimum wage, or sometimes even far less in places like Goodwill Industries. This is a place where their entire inventory is donated to them by people thinking they are helping the disabled, so the opportunity for greed is astonishing.  It seems that corporate America has nothing on “charitable” America!  I always heard charity begins at home.  I guess these “charities” took that adage to heart.

At the same time, I’ve been inundated with requests from all kinds of groups these past few weeks wanting me to give them money to “stop Planned Parenthood!”  Nothing could make me happier than stopping Planned Parenthood.  But why does everybody need me to give them “$25, $50, $100, or however much I can” to do so?  Whatever happened to doing the right thing just because it is the right thing to do?  What are they going to do with my money anyway?  Bribe these Senators to vote their way?  Or just pay more greedy lobbyists?  It doesn’t make any sense to me.  All I can see is more greedy people trying to cash in any way they can on the death of innocent babies.

It reminds me of all those lawyers who file class action suits against companies and win multi-million dollar judgments, but their clients end up receiving something like $1.27 each in compensation while the law firms take home huge fees.  Their clients are victimized all over again by their greed.  These “pro-life” groups, lawyers, and candidates are dealing in hope, and for our “donations” all they seem to have to expend is rhetoric.  It’s been going on for how long now?  I’ll admit, I’m tired of it.  All I want to say to them is “stop talking about it and do something!  And don’t ask me for another dime until you do!”

All that said, there is something for “putting our money where our mouth is.”  People do need our help.  What can we do to wisely invest in people?  The Bible tells us not to store up for ourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but store up our treasures in heaven. (Matthew 6:19-20)  How do we do that?  We can’t just mail our money to heaven.  First, we give our tithe to the church.  Then, if we can, we find the causes dear to our heart, and we investigate them carefully.  Ask questions.  How much of their money directly goes to help people?  How much to salaries and “expenses”? Then, before we give, pray.   God bless.  Teresa
